OUR HALLWAY, OR THEIRS ?

by OGRE - May 25/98

First let me say that I truly believe the FSBA staff is working
hard on the Hallway project. But let's be clear: There's a big
difference between working hard, and providing good service.

It is painfully obvious from the comments they make and the way
they comport themselves, that the Valets and Concierges in this
virtual space have little or no training in public relations, or
online business. It is also clear that FSBA has already decided
what they want to do with the Hallway, and are not interested in
user input. FSBA does not respect the community they have created,
or the members it has attracted, and they are willing to throw it
all away and start over. As far as they are concerned, until
Hallway begins to turn a profit, it is still in its "beta" phase.

They want to make Hallway a clean, sanitized space for advertisers
and corporate presence. What they don't realize is that they
cannot sanitize an interactive space, because it loses all the
properties that make it interesting. Virtual communities are not
TV, you cannot guarantee content or force perspectives, and this
is what more and more people are looking for these days (why do you
think all the major radio and TV stations have web sites?).

I'm willing to bet none of the decision-making executives at FSBA
have been in the Hallway world for more than 15 minutes. None of
them have any interest in what is developing here beyond a bar
chart that shows a healthy profit margin.

So how do you make someone like that become interested? You put
a dollar value on each community member, and you organize them.
You use your financial clout to force the money-oriented
controllers of the world to take notice.

Let's work together to make our voices heard!

What can you do? Please read and sign the petition at:

(it is important that you provide a valid e-mail address, so FSBA
can tell you are the real owner of the avatar. the billing plan
you are signed up for is the dollar value they will see you
represent, and your willingness to leave if things do not improve
indicates how serious you are about the content of the Hallway
world and other WorldsAway environments)
